Tyler Benjamin BIOGRAPHY Kris Tyler Benjamin (born Janauary 13, 1977) is a communication strategist and political activist, affliated with the local and national Democratic Party Benjamin, was the Director of the D.C. Democratic State Committee first in the Nation Presidential Primary. Without only less than a month to go, she more than doubled the voter turnout for the previous year. Benjamin was born in New York, New York to parents from the United States Virgin Islands.She spent a great deal of time in both places, however attended schools primarily in New York City. Benjamin graduated from the prestigious Notre Dame High School, and went on to attend the State University of New York at Oswego and Johns Hopkins University. Benjamin became a political activist in the early nineties joining the New York Public Interest Research Group to organize against rising state tution, cuts in higher education, consumer fraud,and homelessness.She rose quickly in the organization becoming the Consumer Advocate for Oswego and organizing large lobby days in the state capital of Albany, New York. Benjamin was the Associate Director for Brazile and Associates, the ANC Relation Director for the Executive Office of the Mayor, and the Community Liaison to the Office of the Superintendent all of which made use of her strong skills in public affairs and strategic communications. Benjamin has worked on several campaigns political and public awareness. The most notable has been Gore-Leiberman, Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs, America Buckles Up, Campaign for a Tobacco Free Kid, D.C. First in the Nation Primary to name a few. Benjamin served at the President of the D.C. Young Democrats for four years, bring the organization the highest success in recent memory. She is currently the National Committeewoman and Political Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Benjamin is also a Congressional Black Caucus Leadership Institute graduate, and the recipient of the Wilson-Clarke Leadership Award. |
